Kinesiology Taping
Kinesiology Taping
Supporting Better Movement, Recovery and Performance
You may have seen athletes wearing brightly coloured tape on their shoulders, knees, backs or legs and wondered whether it actually works.
The answer is yes, but perhaps not in the way most people think.
Kinesiology tape isn't designed to hold joints together or restrict movement. Instead, it works by providing sensory feedback to the nervous system, helping improve body awareness, movement control and confidence.
In simple terms, it helps your brain better understand what's happening within your body.
When applied correctly, kinesiology tape can help support movement, reduce discomfort and improve the way muscles and joints function during everyday activities, rehabilitation and sport.
One of the reasons I use kinesiology taping is because it complements many of the other treatment approaches I offer.
By enhancing communication between the brain and body, tape can help reinforce positive movement patterns, improve muscle activation and support the changes we're trying to create through treatment and rehabilitation.
Kinesiology taping may be helpful for:
- Sports injuries
- Muscle strains
- Joint pain
- Shoulder problems
- Knee pain
- Back pain
- Tendon injuries
- Postural awareness
- Movement retraining
- Rehabilitation support
Unlike traditional sports tape, kinesiology tape is flexible and designed to move with your body. Most people quickly forget they're wearing it and can continue with normal activities whilst benefiting from its effects.
Some people notice immediate improvements in movement or comfort, whilst others experience more subtle changes over time.
As with all treatments at The Bear Truth Clinic, taping is not viewed as a quick fix or a standalone solution.
It is one of many tools that can be used to support recovery, improve movement and help your body function more effectively.
The tape itself isn't the answer.
The answer lies in helping your body move better and creating lasting changes that allow you to stay active, resilient and pain-free.
If kinesiology taping is appropriate for your condition, I may incorporate it as part of your treatment plan to support your recovery between sessions.
Duration: Typically a 30-minute treatment session
